WHY I'M DOING IT

Each day in February I'm hitting the water for SurFebruary and raising funds for cancer research at Chris O'Brien Lifehouse.

The reality is that one in two of us will be affected by cancer in our lifetime. That’s a pretty big statistic. The good news is that we can make a tangible impact on how we treat cancer by contributing to innovative cancer research that benefits us all.

It only takes a minute to donate and anything you can give (no matter how big or small) will go a long way to helping people with cancer and their families.

Thank you, I really appreciate your support.

See you in the water!

Day 9

Sunday 9th Feb

Day 9

Okay so that was NOT fun. Although the water temperature is 20 degrees, there's a strong current running through and like yesterday, the wind gave me a sandblasting.

I did NOT want to swim on either day and tomorrow doesn't look much better. Jamie drove me to the ocean 🌊 today on the promise of gyros.

I thought to myself that no one would really know if I didn't swim today. However I would know, and that didn't sit right. Besides, if you're a cancer patient you don't have a choice either. That sucks. So into the wild sea I went.

Thanks SOOOOO much to everyone who has donated to my @surfebruary fund so far - I can't tell you have much I really, really appreciate the support.   🌊💙🌊

Day 4

Tuesday 4th Feb
I went and saw the physio yesterday for my hip tendonopathy, and he said that I could keep surfing because it's probably other things that make my hips sore rather than surfing itself. I like him. Good advice.

It's been super hot so easy to get into the water - I've had two ocean swims so far, and two surfs. This morning at Point Roadnight with the new board was sooo much fun - it was small but clean, and breaking from the point to the boat ramp. Every time I ride that board I think about how much Dad would have appreciated it.

The water is the warmest it's been at 19.7 °C, two degrees warmer than average for this time of the year.

I feel so lucky that I get to enjoy the ocean - I know saltwater isn't the only thing keeping me alive but it sure feels like it helps.
