WHY I'M DOING IT

My Brother Ado had 2 Melanomas recently removed at Lifehouse and is now being treated for skin cancer.

My wife Bree has also had a melanoma removed from her back at Lifehouse in the last year.

I am thankful for the care and support they both received at Lifehouse.

Each day in February I'm hitting the water for SurFebruary and raising funds for cancer research at Chris O'Brien Lifehouse.

The reality is that one in two of us will be affected by cancer in our lifetime. That’s a pretty big statistic. The good news is that we can make a tangible impact on how we treat cancer by contributing to innovative cancer research that benefits us all.

It only takes a minute to donate and anything you can give (no matter how big or small) will go a long way to helping people with cancer and their families.

Thank you, I really appreciate your support.

See you in the water!

Paul

DAY 29 WANDA LEAP TO THE FINISH

Thursday 29th Feb
Day 29- LAST DAY!!! I had a fun little surf  at Wanda with Pete Thompson a mate from QF. Conditions were really good but the surf was only 1ft. I had the pleasure of meeting and surfing with Sarina, Mia, Erica and Caitlin from Cronulla Christian Surfers. A great bunch of Girls that I would love my daughter Skye to connect with.

DAY 28 GREENHILLS WITH RICH

Wednesday 28th Feb
Day 28 saw my good mate Rich Dewar come out of the Eastern Suburbs in Bronte down to the Shire.
Rich,Zac & I surfed small Greenhills.
The only good thing was the warm water and nobody out.
It was still good to get out after a busy shift at Qantas.

DAY 27 GREENHILLS

Tuesday 27th Feb
Day 27 I was blessed with 4+ late afternoon glass off session at Greenhills after a 12 hour day at QF.
Waves quite straight but the odd one had a nice shoulder.
Weather was overcast but the water still very warm.

DAY 26 NORTH CRONULLA WITH CSA

Monday 26th Feb
Day 26 I surfed on a CSA foamie out North Cronulla with Skye,Imi & Maddie in their CSA lesson. Terrible waves and wind but fun surfing with the Girls.

DAY 25 WANDA FOR MATT

Monday 26th Feb
Day 25 I dedicate this surf to my good friend and Qantas college Matt Lousada who died tragically in a motorbike accident. He wasn’t a surfer but sponsored me this Surfebruary. Above was his surfboard which he proudly displayed in his home in Alexandria. RIP Matty you will really be missed.
I surfed with Zac out Wanda and had some really fun waves and good conditions at the end of a cracking day.

DAY 24 ELOURA

Saturday 24th Feb
Day 24 I surfed Eloura. Strong Southerly winds and terrible waves. Volker and Anita came and watched from the cafe.

DAY 23 NORTH CRONULLA

Friday 23rd Feb
Day 23 I surfed some close outs with Zac.

DAY 22 BIRTHDAY SURF AT WANDA

Thursday 22nd Feb
Day 22 I had a fun Birthday surf out Wanda with Skye,Zac,Lockie James,Matt and Kade Lewis and Paul & Lucas Vella. Waves were 2-3ft and beautiful summer arvo conditions. It was so good to surf with my Son & daughter and some friends on my birthday. Dinner at Cronulla RSL with family.

DAY 21 NORTH CRONULLA

Wednesday 21st Feb
Day 21 The swell picked up finally and scored some nice punchy 3ft+ waves out North Cronulla with only a few guys out before night shift. Weather had also improved with a little bit of sunshine.

DAY 20 THE ALLEY

Tuesday 20th Feb
Day 20 I surfed the Alley with Zac & Noah B. Very stormy conditions & some very average 1 - 2ft waves. Good to get out with the boys.

DAY 19 WANDA

Monday 19th Feb
Day 19 I had another small glassy surf after a 13 hour stormy shift at Qantas. Waves were a fun 1-2ft with no wind followed by a good feed at Gymea Bowlo.

DAY 18 WANDA TRACK 8

Sunday 18th Feb
Day 18 I surfed super glassy 2ft Wanda after a 13 hour day at Qantas. Conditions were perfect except the small swell height. Great to get wet after a long day at the airport.

DAY 17 GREENHILLS

Saturday 17th Feb
Day 17 I surfed some fun 2-3ft waves off track 6 Greenhills.
Weather was sunny and summer conditions.

DAY 16 ZACS BIRTHDAY SURF AT WANDA

Saturday 17th Feb
Day 16 Zac’s Birthday surf with Ado at Wanda. Some fun
2-3ft waves and good weather.

DAY 15 WANDA WITH ZAC

Thursday 15th Feb
Day 15 I had a late surf with Zac in some fairly ordinary conditions. It was still 3ft just very straight and weather was overcast but rain had stopped. Today I reached the halfway point of Surfebruary! Hopefully waves and weather will improve.

DAY 14 NORTH CRONULLA WITH LIAM & ZAC

Wednesday 14th Feb
Day 14 I went out North Cronulla with Liam and Zac. The Alley Rip bowl was in full swing and a paddle fest.
The waves were 2-3ft and the weather deteriorated with strong southerly’s.

DAY 13 WANDA

Tuesday 13th Feb
Day 13 I had quick surf out Wanda after a night shift sleep. Headed into town to the Banksy exhibition and lunch for my wife Brees birthday. Beautiful sunny day but small waves.
Caught up with Noah Bailey as my witness!

DAY 12 WANDA WITH LOWEY

Monday 12th Feb
Day 12 The summer weather has returned with strong NE winds and beautiful sunny beach weather. Quick arvo surf in between night shifts. Fun 2-3ft with some remaining swell from yesterday’s big sets. My mate Lowey came up from Adelaide. Although I couldn’t get him in the water he came up to see what all this Surfebruary is about!

DAY 11 NORTH CRONULLA

Sunday 11th Feb
Day 11 I surfed North Cronulla with Snappy.
Some really solid 5ft punchy waves were pushing through.
It was a little hectic with the Cronulla weekend crowd though probably thinned out a lot with the beach closed and some challenging conditions.

DAY 10 THE ALLEY NORTH CRONULLA

Saturday 10th Feb
Day 10 I went out the Alley at North Cronulla after work around 630. A nice strong rip made it fairly easy to get out. It was typical Alley rip bowl, really sucky and heavy 4ft. Swell still really lumpy after days of storms and strong southerly winds. Hopefully conditions improve tomorrow!

DAY 9 CRONULLA POINT (NMHBII)

Friday 9th Feb
Day 9 I surfed Cronulla Point after  a 13 hour shift at Qantas. Waves were a sloppy 3-4ft and stormy, southerly conditions.

DAY 8 THIRROUL WITH SNAPPY

Thursday 8th Feb
Day 8 I headed down the coast with Snappy. We ended up having a fun little grovel at Thirroul Beach. Waves were 3ft and punchy and wind was fairly strong SE. Lunch on the way back at the Imperial Hotel Clifton was good.

DAY 7 SANDSHOES WITH ZAC,DANIE AND MATT

Wednesday 7th Feb
Day 7 saw me heading back to Sandshoes to escape the howling southerly winds. I had a fun surf with my son Zac, Danie Bredell & Matt Rolland. Waves had picked up into the 3ft+ range and some nice little runners.

DAY 6 SANDSHOES WITH ADO

Tuesday 6th Feb
Day 6 -Well the good weather couldn’t last forever. Rain and southerly winds but waves out Sandshoes were a fun 2-3ft
Had the pleasure of surfing with my brother Ado who is my inspiration for doing Surfebruary. Noah Bailey was also out which was good to catch up with him too.

DAY 3 BAY SURF WITH JONESY

Saturday 3rd Feb
DAY 3 WAS ANOTHER CRACKING DAY.  I WENT OUT PORT HACKING RIVER BAY SURF IN THE TINNY WITH MY NEIGHBOUR CRAIG CJ JONES AND HIS SON JACK.
WE SCORED SOME FUN 2FT 200M LONG RIDES DOWN THE RIVER!

DAY 2 SANDSHOES WITH SNAPPY

Friday 2nd Feb
Beautiful day, surfed Sandshoes at Oak Park Cronulla.
Nice little 2ft clean waves with just 2 mates from Qantas, Scott Snappy Dresser and Steve Horner.
On a sad note, today I lost my neighbour Richard to cancer. His wife Shirley shared how he had suffered for the last 4 years but had really good treatment regularly in Lifehouse.
Gail O’Brien would also take the time to come and visit. RIP MATE, you will be missed in the street.
Shirley was also a nurse who trained around Chris O’Brien in the 80s and was inspired by his amazing work!

DAY 1 WANDA WITH ZAC

Thursday 1st Feb
I had my first Surfebruary surf with my son Zac after work at 7pm. It was a beautiful sunny afternoon. at Wanda.
Surf was 2-3ft wind from the north. Bank was a bit straight so a few close outs. Great way to open the account.
