WHY I'M DOING IT

Each day in February I'm hitting the water for SurFebruary and raising funds for cancer research at Chris O'Brien Lifehouse.

The reality is that one in two of us will be affected by cancer in our lifetime. That’s a pretty big statistic. The good news is that we can make a tangible impact on how we treat cancer by contributing to innovative cancer research that benefits us all.

It only takes a minute to donate and anything you can give (no matter how big or small) will go a long way to helping people with cancer and their families.

Thank you, I really appreciate your support.

See you in the water!

My Updates

Day 24

Saturday 24th Feb
Was meant to be a quick short solo paddle. Ended up doing an ocean dip, getting a coffee, meeting up with my teamie, was followed by a dolphin, extended the paddle by another hour...whoops!

Day 10

Saturday 10th Feb
So Day 10 was an adventure! Very lovely weather (cool, cloudy, not horribly humid). One of the kids joined us today for our paddle which added a lot of fun and gave us adults more of a workout. Exploring, towing, floating picnics and then some very real lessons about always checking the tide!!! Finding the car nearly wheel deep in water on our return gave us a scare. Lessons have been learned!! I've been out everyday since my last update on here (instagram stories and highlights)

Day 4

Sunday 4th Feb
@surfebruary Day 4: Devil's Elbow to Macksville. Our first one way trip. Which we learned means thinking a bit harder about whose car we leave what gear in 😂 mistakes were made. Had some fun wobbling over wake waves by the boaters. Saw mist rising off the water. And were maybe chased by a possessed buoy. Glad we set off early as even by 8am the sun was fierce!!

Day 3

Saturday 3rd Feb
Day 3 saw us off and away to a new spot. It was an early start, followed by a very serene few km on the river. There were lots of photo stops. Plus getting in very close to see the source of a little waterfall. Eventually we came to a fork, and discovered that paddleboards can fit in what look like teeny tiny creeks! We went under a bridge, navigated through a gauntlet of fallen trees. Did the limbo under a fallen tree blocking our way, followed a pair of ducks, were eaten by mosquitoes (fiercer bug spray is required!) and eventually turned around and made our way back to the main river for a snack. We then shifted from sitting to standing, and paddled home. Ready for tomorrow adventure!!

Day 2

Friday 2nd Feb
Today we opted for paddleboard yoga. Which we tethered ourselves to the pontoon for. Lessons learned: -the paddle stays on the board if you are not tethered to the pontoon! -paddling is easier if the paddle is the correct way around -paddle session planning should be done on land, or tethered to something that doesn't move (otherwise you can unknowingly end up far away) All in all a very casual stretch and paddle was just what the doctor ordered!

Day 1!

Thursday 1st Feb
We shifted our starting point today to make it more low tide friendly. It helped! Much less scraping and dismounting. We were even able to practice standing up on our return trip (note to self-stash the actual SUP paddle on the SUP next time!). Lots of stingrays were seen as per usual. And a gorgeous sunrise!

Keen Bean!

Saturday 27th Jan
I started paddle boarding maybe 2 weeks ago? I've been out for a paddle nearly every day. I love it! I'm now adding a whole heal of SUP adventures to my bucket list.

I'm happy to turn a new hobby into a chance to help raise some funds. Because we all know someone who has been affected by cancer.
